Magdalene Asante was born in Ghana, Accra. After moving to the United States at the tender age of seven, she now resides in Massachusetts with her husband. At present, she is focusing on completing a Masters in Fine Arts at National University.
When not stuck to her computer screen, you can find her binge-watching on episodes of American Housewife and trying her best to stay healthy—even if water is the enemy. The Divide Series: War is her debut novel and is currently working on the exciting sequel coming in 2020.
I started reading fiction books in 6th grade. As I continued to read well into my high school days, I noticed the absence protagonist who were women of color. Furthermore, I wanted to push beyond that and wonder why African literature or the dialogue surrounding Africa seemingly only revolved around slavery, child warriors, or poverty, I just wanted to read stories based in Africa. Literally, just satires. I found this to be the main reason why I wanted to create this space in the industry. All my main characters are women, and 95% of my books will take place in Africa. Whether fiction or not, I want these stories to speak beyond the stereotypical ideas of what others think Africa is.
